Hunt Story

The day before this hunt was heavy rain and downpour. I was hunting over a creek out of its banks and the wind was blowing hard from the northwest with small showers here and there. With the rain on the day prior the deer were bound to be moving well in search for food. I was hunting out of a saddle and was secured in the tree around 6:35. The heavy overcast hid the sun well as normal shooting light was too dim for a bow shot. Around 7:15 two doe came along feeding on low hanging branches. 5 minutes later the target buck appeared through some tall brush about 60 yards out. I quickly prepared my range finder by the time he came to 25 yards and was given a slightly quartered to shot at 21 yards. Undetected I took the shot. As he trotted off, I didn’t hear him crash due to the wet ground and high wind conditions. The arrow made a clean pass through with sign of gut shot on it. This worried me and I left immediately. After thinking over my shot and angle I went back to the woods. Before looking for blood I walk into tall brush and found the buck 40 yards from where the shot was taken. It was a good start to my 20th birthday.
