Hunt Story

After getting a week off, I knew that my property would be hot considering the timing of the rut every year. I had hunted hard all week long with no success of any mature deer showing up. After checking trail cameras, I was able to locate a good mature buck in the area that I would hunt. I changed my strategy and began to sit in this stand. On the third sit, I had 5 does come out into the mowed cotton field with a little speed. I knew something was up and decided to stay on alert. After they made their way back into the woods I lost a little encouragement. I decided to keep my eyes open wide still and it paid off because this buck I had on trail camera one time before decided to make an appearance 15 minutes later. I could tell it wasn't the buck I was after so I set my gun down. After seeing the deer move around and shown me different angles I realized he was a mature buck and I should take the shot. After steadying my 25-06 topped with a Zeiss Conquest I made an astounding 225 yard shot. I felt certain I made a good shot but didn't get down to check until I gave him an hour. I followed a really heavy blood trail for 50 yards and there he laid right in the thicket.
