Hunt Story

After hunting this buck hard all season and having seven sightings of him just out of range, it finally came together. Not long after daylight I heard two grunts followed by deer scattering about 70 yards away from me. Five minutes later I had a doe ease in from my right front followed by a button head who proceeded to feed around on white oaks. About a minute later I heard another grunt and the doe and button head took off across one of my shooting lanes at 20 yards and I finally got my first look at the buck, it was him. He lost all interest in the does after stopping behind some brush in front of me at 30 yards. He began feeding on the white oaks and working his way back to my right side. After 10-15 minutes feeding around in front of me he stepped into one of my shooting lanes at 30 yards and I let my arrow fly. I knew the shot was back but I watched him ease off into a bottom and never come out. I waited three hours before going to look for him and found him dead in his first bed 70 yards away.
