Hunt Story

Was chasing does while I was on the other side of the field checking my deer cameras before work so I could plan my afternoon hunting location. My wife called and told me that she just saw a deer cross the highway, and I knew the deer it was because he did this to me three days earlier and couldn't get a shot on him at over 500 yards. I stopped what I was doing and drove my truck from my back food plot to the edge of trees that I usually park at. Grabbed my rifle and walked to the irrigation pivot and waited for the deer, hoping it was the buck that has been putting the slip on me for two seasons now. It didn't take long and I saw a deer step out from a rock bed and tall brush that is in the middle of our field. So I lay down, put my bi-pod out and look through the scope to get a better look because it is over 300 yards away. It's a doe, I hang my head, and then it hits me, they are rutting, so I look again and there is another doe, then another. So then I am getting excited. They are bedding in this rock pile and shrubs that I walk by to get to my stand. As I am watching the does, he steps out giving me broadside shot with my Remington 700 VTR .308. Luckily this my gun that I have zeroed in at 300 yards, and he was 315. Was a great experience and a good buck to take. When I get to him I see that it is a deer I named Flop because he has a dead ear. Curious at why his ear was like that I notice a scar on his neck. He had been shot from a previous season. He was 4 1/2 years old.
