Hunt Story

I have not been able to work or hunt this season due to having Covid. I finally got to go back to work around Thanksgiving, but still not able to hunt. I got my Christmas vacation and decided to hunt on its first morning. I got up and went to a place I have hunted since I was a kid. I got into my blind around 6:40 am. Roughly, about an hour later, I saw a deer moving along the wood line about 150 yards away. I raised up my Browning A-Bolt 30-06, and saw the deer was a buck. I gave a loud whistle stopping him and took the shot. The buck just walked off. I thought to myself, "There's no way I missed him." So, I walked back to my truck, waited about 30 minutes, and then drove across the field to the location where he stood when I took the shot. When I pulled up, I could see him lying about 30 yards inside the wood line. I never dreamed that I would encounter a buck like this in my lifetime, a true December velvet monster.
