Hunt Story

I decided to hunt one day last minute after work with a few work buddies, on a small private piece of property that we’ve all been hunting for the last 4-5 years. We’re lucky because the land is adjacent from our office, which provides each access and the ability to get to the woods quick even if we get a late start after work. On this particular day we decided to switch from a lock-on stand setup to a ground blind set up on a creek bottom. We left work around 5:15 PM and headed to the woods for our first sit of the year. We decided this day to take our camera and attempt to film the hunt and so glad we did. We set up the blind, brushed it in, and tucked into the blind around 5:40. By 6:05 we had our first deer. A small 5-point buck. The buck fed within 25 yards of the blind and naturally worked his way back to the bedding area. Around 7:00 PM, I spotted a large deer working his way out of a creek bottom from a thick sanctuary bedding area. He was approximately 75 yards when we first saw the deer, but quickly closed to gap down the funnel of the creek bottom. Within 15 minutes he had made his way into shooting range, but his vitals were blocked by a large tree. I needed the buck to take just a few more steps, turn broadsided, and be in view for the camera. After 5 more minutes he did just that, he turned slightly quartering away, presenting me a 22-yard shot. I double lunged the buck and he crashed 60 yards from the blind. I was extremely blessed to have the opportunity to share this hunt with some of my best friends in the blind, but we also captured the whole hunt on video.
