Hunt Story

The hunt for the deer I call Hollywood started at the end of June when I started checking trail cameras. He quickly moved to the top of the hit list and I started quickly getting a game plan together. I have seen and passed this deer since he was 2 years old and had many encounters with him, including 15 last year. I hung two sets for him. One in a food plot and the other in a staging area from where the trail cameras told me he was bedding about 200 yards from the food plot. I had him coming to the food plot numerous times on trail camera. So I hunted the food plot the first four times, but never could see him in daylight. I then decided to hint the staging area. I got to the stand about 6:15 that night. The wind was perfect and the weather right with a full moon. About 7:10, four does came out on an old road bed about one hundred yards from me. Five minutes later, Hollywood appeared about one hundred yards out. I quickly grabbed my phone to text my brother and all I said was "Hollywood is here." He read the script, he quickly closed the distance into shooting range in a matter of a minute or two. He stopped in front of my stand just browsing at 19 yards. That's when I drew my obsession bow back with my bipolar broadhead, putting right above his heart and let it fly. It was a ten ring and the deer ran forty yards and expired. I was so estatic I had to sit down and call my brother and tell him Hollywood was dead. I couldn't tell if I was more excited about the kill or if he was. The deer had a bigger body than I had originally thought, weighing in at 230 pounds and grossing 135 inches. What an animal. I would like to thank the Lord for this opportunity just to be sitting behind this deer. What a moment.
