Hunt Story

I entered the stand at approximately 5 p.m., and at approximately 6 p.m. a small buck entered the open area and began grazing. I noticed movement to my right around 6:45 p.m. and noticed that it was a large buck that seemed to be rubbing on a tree. The buck entered the open area and I began to take photos, but I could not get a clear view; therefore I began to video the action with my cell phone. The buck began to graze in the same area as the small buck. The small buck went over to my left and began to follow two small does. The large buck remained in the open area for approximately 10 minutes and began to travel away from me and suddenly stopped. I was hoping that it had seen a larger buck. The buck traveled out of sight and seemed startled. Moments later another buck appeared with what appeared to be a larger body and rack directly in front of me. I took aim and struck the deer in the left side. The deer ran toward me, then suddenly turned right. I did not hear the deer enter back into the woods; therefore I was certain that it was down. I descended from the tree and activated my headlamp and began to search the area. I discovered the buck approximately 30 to 40 yards from my deer stand location and was still alive. I chambered a round and fired one shot into the body of the deer and it no longer showed signs of life. I went and got my pickup, loaded the deer and transported it to Whitts Processing.
