Hunt Story

I actually shot and lost this buck in 2016 and he was a 10-point. His rack declined in 2017 and 2018 due to the wound. This year he was exactly the same size as last year. I had been trying to take him for 4 years. Only seen him from the stand in 2016 when I shot and lost him and once this year before I finally got a shot at him Dec. 18th this year about 5:20 in the afternoon. Saw him about 4 p.m. but he stood in the privet and just looked around for about 10 minutes. Then he skirted me to my left and did not offer a bow shot. Then he just trotted off like he saw some other deer in the thick pines up ahead. At 4:45 I had 3 does and 2 small spikes come in and feed. I watched the mature does pushing a spike away from them for about 10 minutes. Then a mature doe started looking toward the pines and I noticed a buck coming but could not reach for my bow as I had too many eyes looking in my direction. As the buck got closer the other deer scattered and buck came in and started eating. I watched him for about 5 minutes and as soon as he started to follow after the does I reached for my bow stood and drew back and waiting for him to turn which he did at 22 yards and offer me a broadside shot. He dropped in his tracts and I followed up with another shot through the heart.
