Hunt Story

I wasn't planning to hunt Saturday afternoon but decided to when a friend called and said he was running late and asked if I could drop him and his son off at a stand. I told him I'd be glad to and I went down the road on our property to slip in a Sad Daddy blind on a food plot. We had knowledge of this deer since last year. He was a 4.5-year-old in the upper 30s and off limits. Because of our management program and the amount of Buck Muscle we feed annually, he turned into a great 5.5-year-old this year with 22" and 24" beams, great mass, and nearly a 19" inside spread. I saw what I normally see in that plot until right before dark. He didn't pay any attention to the rest of the deer. He was run down, injured, and hungry and was headed straight to the trough. I actually watched him for several minutes thinking about a couple friends that had been hunting him but then thought about how hard my wife and I work at this, time and money spent, etc. The rest is history and I couldn't be happier!
