Hunt Story
Had only seen a couple of does since opening of bow season. This buck showed up on trail cam that was set on main trail one week prior and once more on 10/22/16. Both pics of him were at night. I got into stand 15 minutes before shooting light, and no activity until 8:30 am. Three does came running in about 100 yards in front of me followed by another three. I could see them well enough through the foliage; they were being chased but not enough to run them out of hunt area. They split off in different directions, and about 15 minutes later I saw them to my left at 60 yards going up the ridge single file, when I spotted a forkhorn and small 6-pointer. I happened to look at the top of the ridge and spotted the 10-pointer. As soon as they topped the ridge, three does ran back down right in front of me looking back at the rest. The 10-pointer was now farther away. A single doe came running down, and I grunted one time; he turned and took the same path as doe. The doe was leading him to my shooting lane and only 5 yards away when he turned and headed back up the ridge. I had one small opening at 15 yards that he walked into, and I hit him in the shoulder at an angle with a Nap 3 Blade Spitfire shot from my Hoyt Carbon Matrix. He immediately spun and ran parallel with the ridge about 35 yards when I saw him stop, legs buckle, back end went down, and then he fell over backwards. Before I even spotted the 10-point I said to myself that this was one of the best mornings in the woods, for 45 minutes there were does being chased in every direction.
