Hunt Story

My father (my best buddy) and I were both off of work Monday 01/02/2023. We had gone hunting on some private property the Saturday morning before and saw this buck and a smaller one just out of range/sight for me to shoot. The season is coming to an end and I haven't had the best year. I was hunting with my .243 most of the season, like I have for years, but this year something was wrong with that gun and I've missed a couple good bucks. So for Christmas my husband bought me a 6.5 Creedmore, Amazing & beautiful rifle. Anyways we decided to try our luck again Monday morning and sure enough the same thing happened, he came out and so did the smaller buck. We watched him feed on acorns for a good 45 mins before he actually made his way down the hill to us. We were hunting in a ground blind because of the chances of rain. As he got to the bottom of the hill and stepped out into the field, he put his nose in the air and started sniffing then he locked eyes with me. I knew he was about to take off. So I shot him in the neck! He ran maybe 80 yards and dropped. It was a great morning hunting with my best buddy. I've always wanted to kill a 10 pt and to say I'm excited would be an understatement. This is also my best buck to date. We had a blast like always and it wasn't long we took him to the taxidermist. Great way to start the new year! (Funny story - my dad has also entered in the Truck Buck contest. He killed a drop tine 10-point at our club in Jasper County in November.)
