He came in just before last shooting light and ate at our food trough. I had a decent broadside shot and fired off the crossbow. I waited about an hour and went to look for my arrow. The crossbow bolt was broken in half and had bright red blood all the way up to the base of the fletching. My husband and father helped me look in the immediate vicinity but could not find a single drop of blood other than on the arrow. We decided to wait until daylight to try not to bump him if he had bedded. After a brief hunt the next morning my dad and husband went back to look and found him 100 yards from where I shot him, but there was no blood trail to the place he had bedded and died. My first buck with a crossbow that we were able to recover.
