Hunt Story
I hunt a small old grown-up cow pasture. It only gets bush hogged once or twice a year. There is a nice hay field to my left and some hardwoods to my left. I have a feeder and some minerals out at the bottom of the field and back behind me is the old gate to the pasture. It had only seen three does this day so I was not feeling pretty good. I don’t really keep a check behind me when hunting but something told me to look. I seen movement and this buck we named magic Mike when he was in velvet stepped out so I could get a shot. I took a shot but usually when they run off they turn away but this deer ran right toward my tripod and ran into in. I had to hold on to the shooting rail. He circled the pasture and went back to the hardwoods. I was nervous I made a bad shot. I got down and me and my stepdad starting tracking blood. There is two old boats in a roadbed in the hardwoods. We jumped hay buck up there after tracking for about an hour. We decided to pull out of the woods and come back later. My mom has a restaurant in town so I had to go to work and after we closed me, my mom, my step dad, and my older brother all went to track. I think we found him about 11:30. This is my personal best buck. His inside spread is 19 1/4 inches.
