Hunt Story

On Christmas day around 5:45 that afternoon, a big 6-point walked out of the planted pines at about 50 yards. As he was standing there looking at me, an 8-point walked out about two rows from the 6-point. The 8-point instantly turned and walked back the way he came from. The big 6-point finally walked in and started feeding. After a few minutes of feeding, he turned and walked back the same way he came from. So I thought, either they smell me, or they are just being real careful. Then I herd something over where the 8-point walked back into the pines. I could see a deer through the pines, but couldn't quite make out what just yet. As he walked in between 50 and 60 yards, I could tell he had long G2s and G3s. He was facing straight toward me. There was one pine tree between me and him, it was closer to him, and I could see half his body on one side of the tree. While he was standing there feeding, two more bucks walked out behind him. Could of been the 6 and 8-point, I really didn't pay them any attention once I saw this buck. I had my rifle and bow with me, but he was a little out of my comfort zone, and he would not turn for anything. With the light fading fast, I decided to grab my rifle. Even then I was wanting him to turn broadside, but he wouldn't, and I had been watching him what seemed like forever. So I decided to take a chance on him, with his head down I put the cross hairs right where his neck and shoulder meet and squeezed the trigger. I shot and he dropped right where he was standing.
