Hunt Story
It was the twelfth of December around 7:05 A.M. when I eased into my tower stand. An hour passed, yet I hadn't seen a thing, not even a squirrel. Then four does walked into an opening about 160 yards away from me. Following behind them was a beautiful 8-point buck! Although I wanted to take a quick shot at him, I knew my bullet would never make it. I decided to wait and hoped that he would drift my direction. My heart sank when he decided to go off to the left into thick cover instead. Which in simple terms, meant I couldn't get a clean shot. Ten minutes later, a spike came along following the same path the big buck had taken. He hung around for a few minutes, then eased off into the woods. I had my deer grunt with me, so I decided to put it to good use. About thirty seconds after grunting, I came eye to eye with a stout, proud, and most of all, threatened 8-point buck in my 270 Ruger scope. He trotted across the opening about 80 yards in front of me. I steadied my gun on the rail of my tower stand and aimed for the lungs. Taking a deep breath, I squeezed the trigger hitting my intended target! Two years of hunting this buck has really been the adventure of a lifetime. This hunt will be a memory I will never forget!
