Hunt Story
Started on Saturday the 11th, I missed a nice 130-class whitetail buck, then again on Saturday saw a Georgia Giant and was able to squeeze off a shot and I missed again. I was on my knees pouting, when I found the POI "point of impact" of my Ruger M77 Mark 2 7 Mag, on the bottomland. It was obvious I missed again. So here I am telling stories around town to my friends how I missed a great Georgia Giant. Some believed me, some not. So I told my wife Sunday evening after pouting on the phone on how I missed, well crying, seriously, grown man tears came because I missed twice on a great deer, etc etc. Well come to find out I sighted my 7mag in at 25 yards 2 inches high, not thinking I'm usually an inch low at 25, so basically it was 8 inches high at 100 yards, so..... I decided to bring my daughter's 30-30 and my wife's .308. Yea, you heard that right, I brought two rifles to the stand, so anyhow I told my wife, "I'm not going to stop hunting this deer, I refuse to work, eat or sleep, I will find him, and when I do, I will claim my Redemption! So I set off early Monday morning to my stand 44 minutes before light, keep in mind soon after I sat down it was clear the wood were lit with bucks chasing hot does. I heard crashing and chasing happening right in front of me in the foggy bottom. Soon it stopped, it soon become light around 7 a.m. but yet very foggy. I'm hunting a steep ridge near a flat bottom, and the ridge has three sides of steepness. Well, shortly after 7 a.m., I look to my right and saw a doe come up out the hole up the ridge, and low and behold the horns came through the fog like a grey ghost silhouette. There he followed his beloved doe, lol, so he came a few more steps into the open between the trees. It was then, him and I once again, so I had to take a step up on the seat of my Summit double-man ladder stand, so he didn't fade away over the ridge, and I managed to squeeze off a round, come to find out perfect shot! With my daughter's 30-30. I'm stoked!!!
