Hunt Story

I had a couple of hours to hunt on this date before dark. When I first got to the property, I decided to check my trail camera, and it showed that the buck I killed was showing up on camera during daylight the last few days. I then climbed the tree that was 10 yards from the camera. An hour and a half had passed with no deer seen. It was about 5 o’clock when I began to here deer horns hitting together. As soon they stopped I did a series of grunts. About 15 minutes later I saw two bucks come out of the thicket and walk diagonal away from me. I did several grunts with not luck. After an additional 15 minutes, one of the bucks started to walk back to the thicket. I then conducted more grunts, and he turned and started to make his way to the down wind side of me. While this was happening, I grabbed my bow. While waiting for a shot, the second buck came running my direction as if something scared it. I was able to come to full draw and get him to stop. He was standing at 20 yards quartering away. I then released my arrow and watched it hit him in the front shoulder. He then ran off with my arrow. After 30 yards of running the arrow came out. The buck then began to lower his front chest to the ground as if he was going down right at the end of my visibility at 60 yards away. I waited three hours before going and looking for him. I found him laying 15 yards past my last visual of him. It is my biggest bow buck to date.
