Hunt Story

I have a long history with this deer nicknamed Lotto. Last year I had three encounters with him. I passed on the deer in December 2014, but when I encountered the deer in January 2014 he was wounded badly from fighting, and I thought it was unlikely he would survive. I decided to harvest him, but fortunately I missed. To my amazement, he showed up in June on camera with his wounds evident, and he earned his name Lotto. We watched him for much of the summer, but the buck became inconsistent around the first of September. I checked my camera on this food plot on Saturday, September 27th, and Lotto was feeding at 6:40 the previous afternoon — the first picture I had of him in over three weeks! On Sunday afternoon, with the weather, pressure, wind direction, and temperature almost identical to Friday, I decided to give the stand a chance. Lotto stepped out at 6:47 p.m., and I took a quartering-to shot at 25 yards. Due to the angle and exit wound location, we waited six hours before searching and brought in Randy Vick and his dog Annie to help. Annie went straight to the deer; he was piled up about 200 yards from the shot location. Thanks to Randy and his phenomenal dog Annie!
