Hunt Story

I had this deer on camera only one time this season, and it was in the middle of the night. I had hunted the spot multiple times that I had him on camera at to no avail. The day of the hunt there was a bad wind forecasted for that location, so I switched up and hunted another spot quite a ways away that I had not hunted in the morning ever. I saw a couple doe and a few smaller bucks throughout the morning all just cruising through the area. About 9 a.m. I had what looked like a mature buck come by me, but I decided to pass him because he was missing half his rack, it almost looked like it never grew on one side. As he walked away I started to question my decision to pass him but soon realized it was the right move. Shortly after that I turned and saw this beautiful dark rack buck sneaking through the woods. I immediately knew it was a shooter, but I never scoped his rack. Within a few seconds he was standing in an opening, and I put the cross hairs dead on his front shoulder quartering toward me and squeezed the trigger. He half ran and only made it about 50 yards, but I couldn't see or hear that he went down due to the thick cover he was in. I had a feeling it was the same buck I had on camera and immediately called my brother for help. We followed some small spots of blood until I decided to just go look where I last saw him disappear and there he lay. My biggest buck to date and my poor pictures don't do him justice at all. Thankful for a beautiful buck and getting to enjoy God's creation.
