Hunt Story
This was a mature buck we called "Michael Jordan" because he had 2 points on one side and 3 points on the other.... " #23 ". I had several trail cam pictures of him, and he had a very similar rack for the past 3 years. He never added any additional points, only a little more mass. I decided this season if he came into bow range I was going to take him. I saw him four days ago chasing a doe and couldn't stop him for a shot with my Hoyt. This morning I saw several does and a spike move early, and then the activity settled down after that. I was about to pack it up around 9:30 am when I decided to hit the grunt call one last time before getting down. I got on it loud and aggressive, and immediately heard something crashing down the ridge towards me. It was Michael Jordan. He was on a full trot headed toward my stand snort wheezing and grunting the entire time. He got within 10 yards from the base of my tree, and I drew back and released an arrow tipped with a Swhacker right into his boiler room. He ran 80 yards down the ridge and piled up. I recovered him about 20 minutes later. His neck was swollen up and his hocks were dark and ripe. He was definitely in full rut. He tipped the scales at 197 lbs. on the hoof. What a great morning to be in the woods!
