Hunt Story

I’ve been watching this buck for several years and decided I’d shoot him this year if I got the chance. He had a very consistent pattern all summer, so I put up a stand on one of his travel routes last month to try and hunt him opening day. Several deer came in early in the afternoon with a few of them being skittish. The wind was variable at best, and it was hot, but I figured the first night in would be the best opportunity. He showed up just before dark, and I drew on him only to have to let back down with no shot opportunity. He and another small buck did some very light sparring, and he pushed him out of sight. When he walked back in, I was drawn again and he was slightly quartering away. The shot hit its mark, and I went home to give him an hour and to get my son. He only made it about 60 yards before piling up. Thankful to the good Lord for all His blessings and grateful to have the experience of recovering this deer with my little boy.
