On the way to where I was going to climb on an acorn tree I jumped the buck out of his bed. He ran down in the creek bottom and circled around to my left. I saw him going up the ridge and put a stalk on him due to being windy and wet leaves. Stalked to within 12 yards of him and he spooked again. He made two big leaps and stopped looking back at me quartering away. I drew and released hitting him at the last rib on his right side angling forward and lodging in the off side shoulder. He ran about 45 yards and I heard him crash. Exciting hunt. First buck I have stalked and killed on the ground with my recurve.
