Hunt Story

I was in my elevated stand when I heard some deer behind me and saw two does walking fast through the leaves. I caught a glimpse of tall antlers through the bushes but could not get a shot. All the deer moved south away from me, and I thought it was all over, but I did have a shooting lane through the swamp and hoped the buck might walk across it. It took about 2-3 minutes, but I saw the does run across the shooting lane at a range of 150 yards. The light was dim and I could not tell a lot of detail in my scope, so I cranked it up to 9 power. I saw the does running in circles and then spotted a 6-pointer, too small to shoot. I slipped off the safety and hoped a bigger buck might be in the mix that I could not see. My breath was fogging up the scope so about every two seconds I was wiping the scope lens with my glove finger. Then a big buck emerged from the bushes and walked quickly across the 10-foot shooting lane. I had about one second to determine it was a shooter, get my aim and squeeze the trigger. When I shot, he dropped to the ground and I was one happy hunter!
