Hunt Story
Second week of November a good cold front came through and there was a full moon that week, so I knew weather and the time was right for the does to come into season. I was on vacation so I planned on spending all the time I could in a stand. Did an all day sit the first day and only saw does and small bucks. Second morning I moved to another stand. It was quiet that morning, I didn't see anything. About 11:20 I stood up to stretch my legs and looked over my left shoulder and saw a doe standing about 40 yards away. I thought she saw me but she didn't seem alarmed. Then I saw a 4-pointer come in to her and lick her back and put his nose under her tail. I knew she was in estrus then and there might be a good chance a good buck would come in to her. I just watched them and about 35 minutes later I heard foot steps behind me. I knew it was another buck. The 4-point laid his ears back and walked towards the footsteps behind me but he circled out of the way as the other buck came in. As soon as I saw him I knew he was what I was looking for, a good mature buck. I fired and got a good hit just behind the shoulder. He ran about 50 yards and crashed. He's a 6 by 6 with a few kickers around his bases, good mass. A good mature buck that I guess to be 5 1/2, maybe 6 1/2 years old.
