Hunt Story

On the evening of the first day of my deer season I hunted by myself for the first time. We didn't see a single deer during the morning hunt, but the afternoon action started early. I had seen several does including one piebald doe that was a fawn last year, a couple of small bucks, and a large hog. As the sunlight began to fade, I finally saw a legal buck. We had several pictures of this buck and realized just a few hours before that he was a main-frame 8 with a split G2. He walked straight out of the hardwood bottom to the base of my stand. After a few long seconds, he finally walked away and offered me a 15-yard shot. I was so nervous I forgot to use the crosshairs! Luckily he was so close I made a near perfect shot. As I was walking toward my dad's stand, I nearly tripped on the dead buck. My first buck was lying there not 3 feet in front of me, and the celebration began.
