Hunt Story
Great day on WMA, Oct. 1-3 rifle either-sex hunt for Clay Hole WMA, Brunswick, Ga. Bobby Dicks, of Darien, and I scouted area on Wednesday, Sept. 30. We each flagged two areas to hunt, and put Brite Eyes on trees to find in dark. I hunted one place on Thursday with no deer seen, heavy rain that afternoon. On Friday, Oct. 2, I was going to #2 area, noticed a Brite Eye on trail, walked on thru several water holes along trail. Finally came to lots of water as far flashlight could see. Decided to go back to where I had seen that Brite Eye walking in. Thought it might be a sign from GOD. Hunting partner and I always Pray before hunt for safety, clean kill, finding deer, and GOD's guidance. So I figured it may be HIM. Got to the Brite Eye on trail, walked about 25 yards off trail and climbed about 25 feet up tree. Daylight was slow coming, day was overcast. Birds feeding, squirrels playing and could hear acorns hitting palmetto leaves. Saw deer out of corner of eye, feeding down trail. I eased rifle up, could tell there was 2 deer, but could get clear shot on the first deer as he was feeding about 30 yards away. Got him in scope could tell he had antlers, knew I didn't have time to count. Made clean lung shot behind front shoulder. Deer jumped when hit and both deer ran into thick woods. After the shot, deer exploding the woods into the thick, all quiet in 30 seconds. I could see blood where deer was shot. I normally wait at least 30 minutes before making any sound. Hunting partner sent text asking if I shot, then another text if I needed help. Told him no, I would not move until 9:10. and that I would text if help was needed. Bobby came walking down trail about 9:10 as I climbed down. We asked GOD for His help in finding deer. We followed a very easy blood trail as the deer zigzagged thru woods for about 75 yards. Found deer lying near water puddle. We prayed, thanking and Praising GOD for a great hunt and deer. Checked deer in at Paulks Pasture where deer was measured, aged, photographed, and was tagged. I then processed deer into my ice chest. Great Hunt and Day
