Hunt Story
I had several trail-cam photos of this deer on all 5 of my cameras since August. On 11/9/17 I received my first daylight photos of the buck. I hunted that stand Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning. The wind was right all weekend. At 7:50 in the morning I knew it was time to make a move. At 8:01 a.m. my feet hit the ground, and I headed to my tripod to hunt a thick swamp and bedding area. At 9:00 a.m. I had a deer blowing at me. My first thought was I was busted. Ten minutes later I heard a branch break in front of me. After a minute or so, I could see antlers moving through thick brush. As he headed toward a small clearing, he presented me a shot. At the sound of the shot there deer didn’t move. He actually walked back toward me at angle. As he came through a small opening at 20 yards I was offered a somewhat clear shot and dropped the buck. Turns out the first shot hit the buck in the front shoulder and he never reacted. Go figure. Lots of mass and 19 1/4-inch inside spread.
