Hunt Story

This monster buck has been on my radar since last year. As this hunting season drew near "Beamer" (my son named him after seeing him on trail cameras) was still around the area and provided great excitement for opening day. On my first outing of the season while hunting in the creek bottom, this Beamer walked through the field behind me at 75 yards. Unable to get a shot, Beamer lived to see another day. I had to go out of town the next day, and returned on Sunday evening. Monday morning rain was falling heavily across central Georgia, but showed clear for an afternoon hunt. The evening movement was much slower than normal, till the wind slowed around 6:45. I watched a small buck work a scrape and feed on water oaks. At 7:00, three does started feeding through the field, when they focused their attention to the south end of field, a buck in the distance. He was was entering the field. I quickly realized it was Beamer and made the shot, he ran down into the creek below. I called my brother and a few friends to come enjoy this moment, as we have all put in lots of work and time watching this deer grow. We found Beamer a short walk away in the bottom and instantly started celebrating!
