Hunt Story

On a rainy fall afternoon I joined a couple of friends for a hunt. My stand selection was on an open harvested corn field surrounded by planted pines and woodlands. I got to the stand around 4:30 p.m. with the rain beginning shortly after getting in the stand. The rain was off and on all afternoon with a slight breeze. I began seeing a few does around 5:15 p.m. along with a couple of 8-point bucks. As the afternoon progressed, I noticed the bucks seemed to be chasing a doe in a pine thicket to the left of my stand. I blew my grunt call a few times. Shortly after that the doe the bucks were chasing entered the corn field with the buck I harvested not far behind. He entered the field very quickly then ran back into the pine thicket. At 5:48 p.m. he ran back into the corn field where I successfully downed the deer.
