Hunt Story
I had seen this buck the morning before running a doe through a creek bottom. I captured him on camera several times the week before regularly visiting another feeder. I decided to change locations and hunt there the next morning. I call this tower stand "Death Valley" for obvious reasons. This 9-point had the woods torn up with scrapes and rubs surrounding the feeders. Just after first light I saw three does filter in to feed. I figured he was with them but staying deep in the thick stuff. The does were spooky acting and staring down in the woods below them. I knew he must be close. Without warning, the does flushed like a covey of quail, and here he came barreling in and busted up the corn party. My first thought was, "He's gonna run a doe back in the woods and that will be that!" I was shocked to see the 9-point stop at the feeder and begin vacuuming up corn! As the does calmed back down and came back, I thought I better not press my luck, so I steadied the crosshairs behind his shoulder and sent one down range. A clean kill as he dropped in his tracks! ALL the deer I've ever shot have run off and piled up. Dropping this buck in sight was a first for me!! I was truly blessed with a fine whitetail specimen!
