Hunt Story

This buck was known to me and my hunting party. Me, my friend and our boys had been looking forward to the start of the season, because we had numerous trail-cam pics of him all over our lease leading up to the season. Wednesday evening, the 24th, was clear with a slight wind. It was a beautiful evening, maybe just a little warmer than you'd like, but the wind was perfect for this property. This was the second time we had hunted there this year. I was hunting in an extremely thick clearcut bottom with a long skinny oat plot in it. We planted in early October and our plot was looking great. It runs through the thick stuff for about a hundred yards and is only about 20 yards wide. Just before 7:00 he stepped out on the far end of the plot. I immediately knew he was one of the bucks we were looking for. One shot, from my .30-06, to the shoulder with a 165-grain Hornady SST dropped him at 95 yards.
