Hunt Story
This was my first time hunting this area all season. I woke Saturday morning to find myself running late, so I did not get to the woods until around 7:00 a.m. So, not wanting to make very much noise, I got to a good spot in an area where I could see most of the hardwood bottom. Around 7:45 a.m. I had some does come by and feed on out of sight. At 8:15 a.m. a mature doe came running from my right and stopped about 40 yards down in front of me and she kept looking back, I could hear more deer behind her and then I could finally here him grunting and getting closer. He finally stepped into viewing area and I could tell he was a mature buck, but not wanting to get busted, I had to keep my eye on the doe and him. The doe finally stepped into a thick area, and then he stepped behind a big white oak tree. I raised my gun and waited for him to step forward and when he did I aimed and shot, he kicked up and I am thinking I had hit him pretty hard, but to my amazement he walked to about 5 yards stopped, turned around and walked back to exact same spot where I had first shot, so I aimed again and shot the second time and he went down this time. It is not until I got to him I realized that my first shot had only grazed his back. I am very happy to take a mature buck like this one, and lucky to have a second chance.
