Hunt Story

I got in my Summit Climber at 5:10 pm and got up to where I needed to be. I screwed in a peg to hold my backpack then hung it up only to realize my can call that I like to use during the early season was on the other side of my backpack so I took it down and hung my gun up so I could move the can call to the more accessible side of my backpack. As I was doing this I looked over and the buck was coming in at 40 yards, so I took my gun down then hung my backpack up. I needed to turn far to my right to be able to shoot, and if I wouldn't have hung my pack back up it would have fallen to the ground because I didn't even have the seat of the Summit unfolded yet. The deer was never on alert and never knew I was there he gave me a great broadside shot so I touched one off at 5:15 after only being in the stand for 5 minutes and he fell in his tracks. I shot this deer with the rifle I won from the Truck-Buck Contest last season except I upgraded my rifle to the Hell's Canyon Browning X-Bolt in 6.5 Creedmoor. I have never killed a trophy buck on opening weekend and I have never killed a buck with chocolate antlers. I have been blessed the past few seasons and I can't wait to do it again!!
