Hunt Story

I had a doe come out about 7:15 a.m. nosing around looking for acorns under a white oak before working her way into a small food plot we had planted the weekend prior where hardwoods and short pines meet. I was videoing the doe and was about to do another short video of her when she lifted her head and looked back up the hill Into the hardwoods. It was still low light up in the woods but when he stepped into an opening I could see he was a mature buck and only 30 yards away. I had my phone in my hand and my bow was hanging up, so I had to keep an eye on the doe and lean back behind a tree and get my bow off the hanger. I had just got the bow in my hand when I heard him running and grunting straight to my tree. When I leaned around the tree he was only 14 yards away but so close I had limbs in the way that we left right next to the stand to provide cover. I had to squeeze an arrow thru an opening before he took off after the doe again. Unfortunately my arrow clipped a limb and diverted my shot back, but fortunately I shoot 3” cut Swhackers and he went less then 50 yards before expiring in the creek behind me. Thank goodness for Swhackers! We run a lot cameras year round on the property and we’ve never had a pic or a sighting of him before. A beautiful bonus buck that I was blessed to have an opportunity at.
