Hunt Story

We named this deer Bruiser due to his nice stocky body. I have taken five deer, but this is my first nice buck. The buck came out of a creek bottom about 150 yards away. My dad saw him first, and we watched him feed on acorns for abut five minutes and then he laid down. We could not believe he came out to feed and then laid down. We could barely see him due to small trees, but kept watching for about 15 minutes until he stood up. When he did, we knew this was one I could shoot. I have taken 5 deer but never one this large. As excited as I was two weeks ago when I got my first bow buck, I really wanted to get this deer to put on my wall. He immediately fed out of sight and I got worried. Dad said keep an eye on that old road, hopefully he will come to it and feed on the large acorns dropping on this road we bush hogged. Dad was right, 5 minutes or so later he came feeding down the road. As I spun to my left to prepare for shot, I bumped the stand and the deer immediately looked right at us. Wind was in our favor, and he gave me enough time to pull the trigger. One shot from my Savage model 11, .243 dropped him in his tracks.
