Hunt Story
It was the first afternoon on the Chickasawhatchee quota hunt. I was situated over a bed to feed trail with a ton of scrapes and rubs all around the oaks. It was getting close to five, and I had just texted my son the legal light time. As the sun was going down the rays were streaming through the forest and that's when I saw the light bouncing off his beams. The wind was perfect. He was relaxed. He stopped at a scrape about 50 yards away, stood perfectly broadside, then I took the shot. He ran towards me and piled up right out in front. After climbing down, and walking a few yards, I was standing over a great public land 9 point buck. He was punctured, broken off, and scarred up. Definitely a battle tested buck. I've been hunting Chickasawhatchee for 30 years and it never disappoints! Hunting public land is very challenging, but once all the work and miles pay off, it's totally worth it!
