Hunt Story
Opening morning was nice and cool, temperatures in the mid 40s. I was hunting in hardwoods over white oak acorns that butted up against some thinned pines. I had found some nice rubs and scrapes in the area. I didn't see anything real early until about 9:15, I looked straight out in front of me and caught movement and saw a large bodied deer walking up the ridge. When he cleared some saplings, I saw his rack and immediately knew he was shooter. He continued to walk up the ridge, and I let him clear some trees into an opening. I then whistled at him, and he immediately stopped and I shot him. He jumped completely off the ground and took off running out of sight. I didn't see or hear him fall, so that was a little disheartening, but I knew he was hit hard. I went over to where I shot him and found good blood right away. I followed the blood to him about 150-200 yards away. I knew when I shot him he was a good deer, I just didn't realize he was as big as he was. No ground shrinkage here. I have killed several nice bucks in my life, but I this one is my best yet!
