Hunt Story

James McAllister, 13 years old, Lumpkin County, My first buck, 9-point. Started off up at 6:30 a.m. to go to work with my dad for a couple hours of work. We finished work around 9:30 a.m. When we got home, dad asked if I wanted to go hunting. I was like heck yeah. We went to the same spot dad killed his 8-point buck with his bow in the first weekend. We sat on a ridge facing some mountain laurel, and it wasn't long and we saw movement. It only took a second to realize it was a shooter, but it was in thick stuff walking around away from us, so we walked forwards the powerlines to cut him off at first we didn't see him. Then there he was in the thick stuff. I found an open shot, must of been my nerves because I missed. Then it ran right toward me. My dad grunted loud and he stopped. I put in another bullet, aimed, shot, he fell right down. I thought my heart was going to come through my shirt. I ran to my buck. I couldn't believe what had just happened. All I know is I just shot a big buck. I hugged my dad. I couldn't stop holding his horns. "I love hunting"
