Hunt Story

Our family was invited for a late season hunt by some good friends Jock, Bruce and Jacob. The kids decide before we left who would set with Daddy and who would set Momma. Since Miley had sat with me more during the youth hunt at Chickasawhatchee WMA, they decided that she would set with her momma and Jackson would set with me. As it would have it Jock put LeAnn (momma) in the fancy stand, which meant Miley was elated. Jackson and I were in an older stand, but he didn’t even think about it, he was just happy to be in a stand. The wind was whipping all afternoon all afternoon and nothing was really moving until late. A button buck came out and just hung around, and after a little discussion we knew Jackson wasn’t going to take him, so we just watched. I told Jackson that the button buck acted like there was another deer in the edge of the woods, and just after I said that, a larger buck stepped into the clearing. I whispered to Jackson that there was another deer and I believe he was big enough for him to take him. Jackson patiently found him in the scope and made a near perfect shot. Once we got down to look we could not find blood, so we went and got the ladies out of there stand and the four of us and Jock begin searching for the deer or at least some blood in the dark. After around 45 minutes of looking we found him laying not 50 yards from where he had been at the time of the shot. Jackson was super excited because it is his largest buck to date. Many thanks to Jock, Bruce and Jacob.
