Hunt Story
Well, it's been a record-book week. Sunday morning my son shot our No. 1 deer we had on camera. Monday evening my buddy Mike Cockerham got one of our target bucks, a 6 1/2-year-old brute of an 8-pointer. Today was my turn when I saw a mid 150s buck named Dandy. He slipped by at 51 yards, and I wasn't completely comfortable with the shot with him moving. I tried to grunt him back but apparently there was a doe out front I hadn't seen. I didn't have 60 seconds to feel bad until this buck came in right behind. He responded immediately to another grunt and came in broadside at 30 yards. I center-punched him with a clean pass through. He didn't make it 75 yards before crashing. It's the greatest deer hunting week ever and it's just Tuesday. Unfortunately my own kid's deer will beat me for the week, but at least I did get mine with the bow.
