Hunt Story
We’ve had pictures of this buck consistent for weeks but he was not showing up for a couple of weeks once season got going. On Friday, around 1:00, he showed up crossing the camera location. We figured he would probably come back through after he made is inventory run and probably wouldn’t show again for a while so we made a plan to hunt that afternoon hoping he would come back through. We hung a lock-on on the way in and the plan worked. I was hanging on the side of the tree with my saddle and was able to video the hunt. We watched the buck come in, make a scrape, make a rub at 8 yds, and challenge another buck…while I’m steady talking to Hunter (11) to help keep him calm for the shot opportunity. He crossed under our setup and hooked back toward the other buck and presented a shot at 18 yds. I told him to draw back and wait for “greenlight” to shoot. He drew back when he turned slightly quartered away and settled the pin on his heart. He whispered, “dad, do I have a greenlight?" I said, “greenlight” and he sent the arrow downrange. I saw the impact, perfect high heart shot. He ran about 30 yds, stopped, and fell within site. I turned to Hunter and about knocked him out of the stand with excitement. After about a minute, he said, “dad, can I sit down? My legs are like Jello." I told him to have a seat and enjoy the moment, that is what the adrenaline dump does to you after a hunt like that. We gave thanks to the Lord for the blessing of the successful hunt and quick kill. I have had some good hunts in my life but this one will go down as one of the top. Thank You Lord for the opportunity to live in this great nation and enjoy the outdoors with our kids…especially this hunt.
