Hunt Story
About 7:30 AM, we had a doe and her two fawns walk through. They were steadily keeping watch on our stand. Then we looked to our left, and there was a spike that had been watching us while we were watching the does. He had busted us, and ran off, but he never blew, and I didn't expect him to because it was a buck. The does saw him run off, but never knew what he was running from, so they blew for really no reason. They blew, but they never knew what we really were. The does eventually walked off and the spike was long gone. For about the next hour things were really slow, nothing was walking. We were talking about getting down around 9:00 AM and going around the right side to look for more places to place stands. Right when we were about to get down, we saw the second spike walk through, and he walked through in about 10 minutes. We had rattled our pair of antlers two times, and decided to rattle for the third time. In less than 5 minutes, we had another spike show up, and right behind him was the 8-pointer that I wanted to shoot. Since we had rattled, he was looking for another buck. When he realized there were no other bucks, he started to walk out. He walked out into a clearing, and my Dad stopped him by grunting, it took me five seconds and the deer was down. From the time he walked out to the time he was dead, it was about three minutes.
