Hunt Story

I got into the climber at about 4:30. I loaded my gun and went ahead and propped it up on the shooting rail. As soon as I got up I started calling with my grunt call because I already knew that my dad had seen a real big buck out there near the stand. About 45 minutes later I grunt a few times and put it down and pick up my phone to play a game. So I’m on my phone and I look around every few minutes. 20 minutes go by and I look to my left at the corn pile 30 yards away and there he is. My heart immediately starts racing. After I watch him for a little while I got to thinking it was the young 11-point we have on camera that we all agreed to let walk. So I start taking pictures and videos of him. He lifts his head up and that is when I realize this was a totally different deer. I saw the drop tine and his crazy mass and knew he was a shooter. I pull my gun up and he didn’t even know I was there. I had to free hand the gun which was challenging. I put it behind his shoulder and squeezed the trigger. He jumps up and hobbles off. I see him through the bushes just good enough to get a neck shot on him. I squeezed the trigger and he dropped right there in his tracks. I called my dad and tell him the good news. He drives the Kabota over to my stand. We ride over to where I saw him drop, and there he was. He looked like he doubled in size when we got up on him. We took pictures and then loaded him up in the back of the truck and take him to the processor.
