Hunt Story

Friday, November 4th, I was very fortunate. I left the house later than I wanted due to watching the Blue Angels practice for an air show this weekend. I get to my property late, had to fill feeders and swap camera cards. Drove my truck to the feeder which is right in front of my stand. I quickly took care of things and retreated. Hot and sweaty, I decided what the heck, go sit in the stand for an hour. I get to the stand around 17:15, sweating in work boots, shorts, old ball cap and old shirt, because I didn’t want to get ‘hunting clothes’ sweaty. I was checking the camera cards while in the stand, and I text my buddy that was also hunting, that the tall 8 was still on the hoof as of November 2nd. I saw 7 deer from 18:15-18:49, 5 Does and 2 Buttons. The 5 deer that were still feeding suddenly leave the area right at 19:00. That's when ya know something is coming. Out of the bottom at the far end of the plot, a deer steps out facing uphill directly toward me. I knew it was a buck, I bring up the binoculars, and there he was, “The Tall 8”, he was working a scrape. Seemed like it took me about 5 minutes to get the rifle up and ready. Dialed in on target and sent one down range, only 88 yards. No tracking needed! The Tall 8 was actually a 9-point, a tall 8 with a split left brow tine. I was very lucky and in the right place at the right time. 🦌🦌🦌
