Hunt Story
There is not a big story with this deer other than I was surprised! I use to be a trophy hunter, but for the past 10 years I have been hunting with my son and daughter. This is the first year my 13-year-old son could hunt in his on stand and I could hunt in mine. We hunt the same funnel area, so we are close and I can hear him if needed. Saturday morning I put him in the stand where all the deer would come by him first, then by me to go in the bedding area. Right at daylight four does came by my son and then came by me and went into bedding area. The next thing I know the buck came out of the bedding area on the same trail. I would have rather let the buck go to my son, but once I saw the size I knew he was mature and I could not take the chance of letting him wind us and not go to my son. The deer appeared to be in full rut but was just cruising Saturday morning. I do have to say my son was very proud of me but he did say he wish he would have choose that stand. I have not put a tape on the buck but he appears to be in the mid 140s at least. They did weigh the deer at the processing place and he weighed 185 pounds field dressed.
