Hunt Story
I have a long history with this buck. I've had pictures of him for several years. Two years ago I got a picture of him walking through one of my food plots 2 hours after I walked through. Earlier this season I rattled him into 30 yards and shot over him with my bow. This afternoon I wasn't planning on hunting, so I did not bring my bow and grabbed my .44 carbine. I had gone to check my camera over a plot of sugarbeets, mustard greens, and radishes. A week before there was no sign in the plot. Today it was covered with tracks and sign of the deer begging to feed on the plot. I decided I would sit on a stand that I had not seen very many deer from this year. The weather was cool, calm and light drizzle, and 20 minutes into the hunt a button buck came by acting nervous. About 45 minutes later I turned and seen a doe come out of the thick pines. Following her was a mature buck with a decent rack. When he stopped at around 80 yards, I put the bead behind the shoulder and squeezed off a round. The buck lurched forward and took off running low to the ground. He made a 90-degree turn and ran to the wood line. He stopped briefly and then made another 90-degree turn and ran up the woodline and disappeared. When I got to where he was standing, I found blood but the rain had started coming down harder. I walked to where I last saw him and found traces of blood that was being washed away quickly. I walked into the woods and found him 40 yards in the wood line. I then realized he was the buck that I have been looking for the last 2 years.
