Hunt Story
It was a beautiful evening. The game was moving everywhere. I saw squirrels, 16 wild pigs, an otter, and a doe, and heard turkeys yelping. At 5:25 pm two squirrels started barking in a thicket down in the swamp. I was hunting beside a water slough and caught movement on the other side. At first, I thought he was a smaller 8-point we had on camera but then he turned and I saw he was the dominant buck I had seen before but could not get a shot at. I placed a 60-yard shot with my dad's Winchester Model 70 30-06 right behind the shoulder. He ran about 30 yards and then piled up. It was an exceptional hunt for me as my dad passed away in March of 2023. Today was his birthday so I used his rifle to hunt with today and harvest this buck. It was a great day!
