Hunt Story

Left work about 6:20 p.m. after a long Monday to go climb in the stand for a quick sit. Expectations were low as it was warm and I sat in same stand a few mornings before and didn’t see a deer. Not long after arriving a young doe walked out about 300 yards down the powerline and bedded in some tall grass in a portion of powerline that was flooded with about 3-4 inches of water. I scanned woods with binos, but after my wife text me saying supper was ready I decided to get ready to leave before dark. As I was out the door of stand I decided to glance down powerline one last time in binoculars and there was a big-racked buck I recognized immediately crossing downwind of doe that was bedded and heading to her. I stopped him and shot him propping up on hand rail on back of stand. I have known this deer and had approx 10-12 pictures each year since 2019. He was an 11-point then a 9-point in 2020 and again a 9-point this 2021 season. My dad was along for the recovery about 30 minutes after shot. He ran about 25-30 yards after a 200-220 yard shot right behind shoulder with 300 Win Mag.
