Hunt Story
After three long and hard years of hunting this monster buck, I finally was able to close the case. This deer was considered the "ghost Deer" due to the fact that I never could get a daytime picture of him nor could ever see him during the day. I had spent countless hours sitting in the woods waiting for this buck to slip up and make the wrong move. Saturday evening I arrived to the stand covered in VS1. Out of all the times I had gone hunting this deer season that day was the only day that had the perfect wind direction that I had been hoping for. The hunt was going very slow for me that day. The only action I had seen was a small spike making its way to the corn just to leave once it got there. I wasn't expecting much more action after that because the deer movement for the past couple of days had been very slow. It was about 20 minutes before dark when I saw a buck making its way to the corn. From far away it looked like the average-sized buck. Once it got within 80 yards I quickly realized that I was in the presence of a monster buck. The deer was facing me the entire time it was out there but it was unaware that I was there. With the deer facing me the entire time it left me with a tricky shot. As soon as the deer bent his head down slightly to the left, I sent a bullet flying straight into his front right shoulder. The buck dropped dead in his tracks without any further movement. Once I realized what just happened, I was more excited than I had ever been. Moments after this happened I called my dad to tell him the news. When I made it to the deer I realized that this was the deer I have spent all of my time trying to take down. Not all of the joy from taking down this deer was because of his rack. Most of my joy came from sharing this moment with my dad. I will always look back at this moment as one of the best days in my life.
